Fish, just fish

Too late to defrost some steaks, which I've been saving for a special occasion, I don't buy steak normally, he suggested salmon patties. I don't like salmon, but I have had some salmon patties, made fresh, and with loads of mayonnaise, onion, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, dill, and celery, that are cooked to a crispness that were quite pleasant. These were not the patties he was talking about. It seems Jerry doesn't have much of a palette. He, like my greyhound, will eat almost anything protein. He ran home, now why he'd do this when it was pouring and he didn't want to go out in the rain to go to dinner, I don't know, but he did. He went home, got the salmon patties, frozen, mustard at my request, garlic, bottled and very old, and some salad dressing with, I'm not sure, what flavor.
It was now my turn to cook the salmon patties, which had a very unsalmoney look. They had a slightly orange look, but that's where the similarity ended, they didn't even smell like salmon. I refuse to guess what was in them.
Anyway, I heated some olive oil in a pan, got it hot, added the patties, lightly salted and peppered them, and waited. About two minutes into this process my friend speaks up, "this is where I usually add some Worcestershire sauce."
HUH? Worcestershire sauce to salmon, a little strong, I thought, but since I didn't have any, not a problem. I suggested soy sauce instead, oh, we had no lemon, damn it! OK, in went a dash, and I do mean a dash of soy sauce, the patties were turned, more pepper but no more salt, not with soy sauce.
A slightly brown light crust was accomplished after several minutes, remember they started frozen, and served with fresh broccoli, the mystery salad dressing since there was no lemon or tarter sauce, it was at this time pasta or rice was mentioned as being the proper accompaniment to this dish, a little late.
We carried our dishes to the table and I tasted the broccoli, very good, just lightly steamed, still crunchy, still bright green and then I took my first bite of the salmon patty.
As I stated before I don't like fish, and salmon is one of my least favorites, but I continue to try it, some day I will find some I like, probably fresh in Alaska grilled over an open fire, but the patties were not the dish to change my mind. To say they were awful is an understatement, they were horrid! , I don't know how Jerry could eat them, one bite was enough, I gave mine to Jerry, he ate all three, his two my one. And he liked them, he loved the way I cooked them, he'd never tried them that way before, may the gods of food help him, I fear for his taste buds, if he has any. These salmon patties were almost flavorless, but the texture was plastic, and somewhat gooey and rubbery, I hate rubbery, it's yuck, texture in food is very important to me, as it should be to everyone.
Trust me, don't ever eat gooey, rubbery, plastic salmon patties, they will turn you off salmon forever.
Next, pasta!
