Hamburgers, good & bad
April 1st 2009 09:31
I just had my second hamburger of the week. This is unusual for me, if I have one a month it is rare but this seemed to be hamburger week. Last night Jerry and I went to the restaurant here in town that has the best hamburgers around, well at least within 25 miles, but last night was not great. It was over salted. Now the Chef, and he really can be called a Chef, he has the qualifications, usually goes easy on the salt, but for some reason last night was an off night. Oh, it was still pretty good but...
Then tonight Jerry wanted another hamburger, I don't know why but he did, so we went to the only other place in town that has a reasonable hamburger. The thing is, here in this small town we have three fast food restaurants, two chains and one individually owned. The two chains' hamburgers are paper, plastic, whatever, they are awful, I have put my foot down, no more! Not one of those hamburgers, one place I will only go to for a drink, they make a good slush. The other has some other foods, not many that I will eat in a pinch. The third, the privately owned, non-chain has some good and some really bad things, their hamburgers fall somewhere in between.
Tonight's was not one of the good nights. The only thing i can say about that hamburger was that the rolls have gotten bigger but nothing else, oh, and the tomato and lettuce were fresh and clean. That's about all I could say in all fairness.
Again, I have stated, no more hamburgers, if Jerry wants a hamburger, we will buy some good rolls, the meat and whatever else we need and I will make them. I'm mean, I can grill a mean hamburger, it will be juicy, tender, and full of flavor, anything would be better than the ones we had this week.
In a week we are going to visit a dear friend who lives about nine hours away, near San Antonio, that's south central Texas for those who don't know. She has informed me that the town she lives in now, Sequin (go ahead guess how it's pronounced, bet you can't), has a good Thai restaurant. I love Thai food, haven't had any in ages, I'm looking forward to the visit. The local grocery store also carries a wide variety of cheeses, like Gorgonzola, yes, this trip will be well worth it. Oh, and I'll see my friend again, and fix her computer while we're there.
Later folk, don't take any wooden hamburgers, they aren't worth it.

You need to come downunder and try the hamburgers at our shop. They are divine (modestly speaking of course)!!
Mind you, you will need to get used to beetroot on the hamburger, a very Aussie tradition.

I'd love to come downunder and try one of your hamburgers. I'm pretty sure I could handle beetroot on a hamburger, since there was a great restaruant that served theirs with peanutbutter and they were great. Yes, sounds awful but was very tasty.

I agree about the chains, they usually taste like paper or wood, I suspect it's the celluose of whatever they are using for filler. YUCK! to chain hamburgers. I, too, make a mean hamburger. Thanks for reading.
