Sequin Trip

Chrio Java Cafe
The Side of Chrio Java Internet Cafe, Sequin, Texas

Well, I'm finally in Sequin, pronounced Sa-geen, honest, it's Spanish and a man's last name. Really, would I lie to you?

So far the trip has been fun, but food wise uneventful, the food down was horrid, but that was our fault, never buy egg rolls at a gas station rest stop. Just don't, it's hard to ruin egg rolls, but it can be done, Jerry and I will swear to that in court. Yucky!

We got in Sunday morning about 3:30 am stayed up drinking and talking until about 5:30 (morning still), and then slept until about 10:00, then started the day, with lots of coffee, good coffee. What did we do? We talked, drank coffee, juice and talked. Then we had a really good breakfast of sauteed veggies, red bell peppers, onion and garlic, with melted queso. They could have used some jalapenos but was yummy with some dried red peppers shaken on them. Then we went sight-seeing and took loads of pictures of old buildings, a river, churches, an old historic cemetary, and houses. It was a lovely day.

We had late lunch/dinner at a chain restaurant called Chilli's, for those of you who are out of town or don't know the place. They are a mostly moderate to high priced chain/franchise with good, consistant food, a wide variety, and some excellent beers. I had a shrimp salad with tequila lime dressing with cheese, tortilla strips and other goodies. It was wonderful and not too expensive, around $9.00, worth the money. Jerry and Wanda, the friend we are visiting, has grilled salmon with vadilia onion with lime vinaigrette dressing, fresh steamed broccoli and rice (Wanda skipped the rice because she only eats brown rice, she's very picky), this yummy, even I liked the salmon, was only about $13.00. Not bad at all, as I said a quality, moderate to high priced chain. The chain seems to have good quality control. I'll probably try one more often. Oh, if you like soup, their chicken enchilada soup is too good for words.

Today we are at an Internet Cafe where we had lunch. Before lunch, for a late breakfast I had a Shamrock Smoothie, not great, too sweet, I don't like sweet that much. My own fault, I didn't find out what the ingredients were, just decided on a whim to try it, from now on I'll stick to fruit smoothies.

Wanda joined us for lunch around 1:00, that's why I had the smoothie, we got here about 10:30, and she recommended the sandwiches or salads and, of course, the coffee. As a cafe, they only have sandwiches and salads, coffee and desserts (ok, tea, and stuff, but not entrees, etc). Wanda had a chicken salad salad, she is gluten intolerant, just recently discovered, so she doesn't eat any sandwich with bread made with wheat, or other flours that have gluten. She's feeling much better now and has lost lots of weight.

Back to the food. Jerry had a tuna salad sandwich with tomato and sprouts on sour dough bread, he declared it very good, and he can be a very picky eater, really he can, there are lots of foods he won't even smell much less taste, like stinky cheese, any stinky cheese.

I had an old favorite, a Ruben. For those of you who might not know what this is, it's corned beef with sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing served on toasted rye bread. I'd like to say it was great but it wasn't. It was pretty good, but not great. It needed much more sauerkraut, you could hardly taste it, and less dressing. The corned beef was tasty and the Swiss cheese was real and good.

We're going to come back tomorrow and have breakfast, if we get up early enough, might not make it.

Tonight, the long promised Thai Restaurant, Jerry is looking forward to it with trepidation, Wanda with a smile and with great anticipation. I can hardly wait, first beef sate, then something with peanut sauce, and then who knows, I just have to avoid curry, anything with curry powder, I'm highly allergic, not a good thing to eat.

Tomorrow night I'm making a pasta dish for Wanda, something she's been dying for since she moved here over a year ago. Pasta with fresh veggies, garlic and Gorgonzola cheese. We both love the cheese, Jerry, of course hates it, it's "stinky" but I promised not to put any in his, but I might have lied.

More tomorrow after the Thai. Oh, I don't have Internet connection at Wanda's so it might be a couple of days. I'll, for sure, get these posted by Thursday, I'll be home and hopefully rested. We are not, repeat, not, driving at night time going home.
